Sally learned to sew at a young age from her mother. With that skill, she was always making something. Returning from a trip to New York in her teens, she came home with a fashionable hat on her head and a new obsession. After years of seeking out and buying hats, she finally decided to combine her love of making things with her love of hats. Sally enrolled in the millinery program at FIT and soon after completing the certificate program, she began her business and joined the Milliners Guild. She is continually learning new techniques and has studied with internationally acclaimed milliners including Eugenie von Oirschat, Lina Stein, Jane Stoddart, and Laura Whitlock.
Sally also works in theatrical millinery, making hats for Broadway, ballets, regional theaters, and Disney. She has recently had the privilege of working with world renowned milliner, Stephen Jones, on a variety of projects, including New York Fashion Week 2019, working on the collections for Marc Jacobs and for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty, and the In Pursuit of Fashion exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Sally designs hats for special occasions as well as casual everyday wear, and all her hats are meticulously handmade. Her creations are available from her by appointment and at The Hat Shop and Jeannie’s Dream in New York. You can find her on the web at sallycaswellmillinery.com and on Instagram @sallycaswellhat.
