Guy Carsone’s creative life began as an advertising art director creating printed materials in the diamond industry. In the Summer of 1992 when the world of advertising was changing Guy had an assistant who said " let's make hats." It seemed like a good idea and a milliner was born. Guy was familiar with both women’s and men’s hats, he is a fifties baby when everyone still wore hats. He grew up under the influence of the New York fashion industry as his grandmother owned a garment factory in the Bronx. Hats were a particularly important part of dressing to the women in his family. "Growing up in the 1950's hats were everywhere and everything. They finish the look. Hats transform you; they help you see what can be.”

In the beginning Guy was mostly self taught until attending FIT to learn more formally and fine tune his skills. His first collection was featured at Henri Bendel in New York City as a permanent installation. He was contacted by Saks Fifth Avenue to create custom pieces for their bridal salon. His work has appeared globally in print and high end retailers. The Opera Shop at Lincoln Center, Whitney Museum are two highlights of his career. In 2009 Guy opened his own Brooklyn based brick and mortar. Guy is a founding member of the Milliners Guild and made a generous donation of over 40 hat blocks from his collection to the Guild’s block library in 2021.

Currently Guy lives in New Jersey and will be opening up a new shop Bale of Hats in Upper Saddle River where he is looking forward to creating and sharing his knowledge teaching a full curriculum of millinery and hat making classes.
